Jio Platforms' recent IPO generated considerable public enthusiasm, showcasing a notable appetite for large-scale offerings among investors. This wave of interest could prompt other firms to accelerate their IPO plans. Experts suggest that the viability of future IPOs will hinge on prevailing market trends and investor mood. Additionally, the significant funds from Jio's IPO will soon be redirected into various investment avenues, potentially bolstering upcoming offerings and shaping pricing strategies.

Loading...×The overwhelming response to Jio Platforms' Rs 30,213 crore IPO has raised expectations that India's primary market could absorb more mega offerings in the coming months, with several companies preparing to raise thousands of crores. However, analysts say the success of future issues will depend on valuations, investor returns and the strength of the secondary market.Mukesh Ambani's Jio Platforms attracted public bids worth Rs 4.9 lakh crore during its three-day offering, which closed on October 23. The issue was subscribed 22.19 times, with qualified institutional buyers bidding for 70.55 times their allotted shares and retail investors subscribing 2.72 times.
The record demand comes at a time when India's equity markets have been under pressure from geopolitical uncertainty, elevated crude oil prices and foreign investor selling. It has also highlighted the depth of domestic and institutional capital available for large public offerings.
Jio's shares are scheduled to list on October 28, and their performance could influence how other companies price and time their public issues.

Piyush Mehta, smallcase manager and Chief Investment Officer at Caprize Investment, said the response to Jio assumes significance given the substantial fundraising already undertaken by Indian companies. He noted that more than 100 IPOs raised around Rs 90,000 crore during July-September alone, increasing competition for investor funds while the broader market remained weak.
A strong listing could encourage companies waiting for better market conditions to proceed with their offerings. It could also give investment bankers greater confidence in placing large issues with domestic mutual funds, insurers, foreign institutions and retail investors.
Mega IPO pipeline remains strong
India already has a sizeable pipeline of companies awaiting their stock market debuts. According to Prime Database figures, about 145 companies held valid Sebi approvals as of September 25, with proposed fundraising estimated at Rs 2.75 lakh crore. That figure included Jio and other issues that have since reached the market.Among the large offerings still in the pipeline is Walmart-backed PhonePe. Solar equipment manufacturer Avaada Electro is preparing an offering worth up to Rs 7,600 crore. The company began investor roadshows in September, with a listing targeted before the end of 2026, subject to market conditions.
Quick-commerce company Zepto is another closely watched candidate, with earlier pipeline estimates putting its proposed issue at more than Rs 5,000 crore. Hospitality company Prism, the parent of OYO, has meanwhile reduced its planned fresh issue to Rs 3,350 crore from Rs 6,650 crore, according to a regulatory filing in October.
Other companies in the broader pipeline include Credila Financial Services, Infra.Market, Inox Clean Energy and Mahanadi Coalfields. Their proposed issue sizes and launch schedules remain subject to regulatory clearances and market conditions.
The range of companies preparing to list also indicates that fundraising interest extends across digital payments, renewable energy, financial services, manufacturing and consumer businesses.

Mahavir Lunawat, Chairman and MD of Pantomath Capital, expects the strong pipeline to support another major year for IPO fundraising.
"There is a strong possibility that IPO fundraising in 2026 will surpass that of last year," Lunawat said earlier. He pointed out that more than 60 IPOs raised nearly Rs 74,000 crore during January-August 2026, exceeding fundraising in the corresponding period of 2025.
According to Prime Database, India's mainboard IPOs raised a record Rs 1.76 lakh crore in calendar year 2025.
Lunawat believes the continuing interest from companies across sectors reflects the growing depth of India's equity capital markets, although the eventual fundraising total will depend on market conditions.
Will Jio's IPO release liquidity into the market?
Another factor investors will be watching is the release of funds blocked during Jio's IPO. The offering attracted public bids valued at Rs 4.90 lakh crore against shares worth about Rs 22,000 crore available in the public bidding portion. This means a substantial amount of money blocked for unsuccessful applications is expected to become available again following allotment.Under the ASBA and UPI application systems, bid amounts generally remain blocked in investors' bank accounts until shares are allotted. The unutilised funds are subsequently released.
Some of this money could be redirected towards other IPOs or the secondary market, potentially supporting demand for equities in the near term. Mehta said the release of blocked funds could provide a liquidity boost, although investors may choose to deploy the money across different assets or retain it in cash.
September's record systematic investment plan (SIP) contributions of Rs 32,490 crore also point to continued household participation in equities through mutual funds.
However, the expanding supply of new shares means companies seeking to list must compete with existing stocks for investors' incremental capital. The immediate IPO calendar remains active. Five mainboard offerings seeking a combined Rs 2,581 crore are scheduled to open during the week beginning October 26.
Will Jio change how future IPOs are priced?
Jio's offering could also influence the pricing strategies of companies preparing large issues. The telecom and digital services company priced its IPO at Rs 1,065-1,119 per share, valuing the business at Rs 10.3 lakh crore at the upper end.Its issue consisted entirely of fresh shares, with no offer for sale by existing investors. The company plans to use up to Rs 27,500 crore of the proceeds to repay borrowings at subsidiary Reliance Jio Infocomm. The strong response demonstrated institutional demand for a large, profitable business with an established market position and identifiable uses for fresh capital.
The response to Jio also comes after the Rs 22,562 crore NSE IPO in September, showing that India's market has been able to accommodate multiple large offerings within a relatively short period.
"India's ability to absorb future mega-listings will be determined as much by investor confidence as by the size of its capital pool," Mehta said.
